Metro Park attraction closed for “foreseeable future”

For a while, at least, no one will be hitting the double gaston into the cruxy half-pad crimp on the 5.11 arete line.

That is to say: The climbing wall at Scioto Abdon Metro Park will be closed indefinitely for repairs.

“Our climbing wall is closed for the foreseeable future. It’s currently undergoing repairs. The repair timeline is currently unknown but we’ll post when it’s open!”

The wall, which is free for Metro Park visitors, features multiple autoblay devices, which allow climbers to scale the wall safely without the help of a human belayer, but typically require regular maintenance.

The 35 foot-tall wall is located at 500 E. Whittier St., inside of Scioto Audubon Metro Park. It opened in 2009 and is billed as the largest free climbing wall in the Midwest. 

Climbers have a number of for-pay climbing options nearby in the form of Vertical Adventures, Bloc Garten and Chambers Purely Boulders, in addition to Quarry Trails Metro Park, which offers free outdoor climbing on real rock.
