’70s-inspired dive bar and coffee concept coming soon to Clintonville

A new bar and coffee concept is opening up in the Clintonville area that plans to pack a punch of nostalgia.

Inspired by the good ol’ days of hanging out in her grandparents’ ‘ 70s-styled basement with her cousins, owner Mandi Woodworth created the concept Luke’s Social Lounge, located at 4532 Indianola Ave.

Creating a third space in Central Ohio was always a goal for longtime Clintonville resident Woodworth, and when a friend reached out to let her know about an available lease, she jumped at the opportunity.

“We had to do a full build out because it was retail before, but I walked in and instantly, my vision came to life in front of me,” said Woodworth.

The name Luke comes directly from Woodworth’s dog, a husky with separation anxiety, who passed away five years ago. Seeing her “soul dog” immortalized in the bar’s logo, Luke’s essence lives on in Woodworth’s passion project.

The dive bar will offer signature seasonal cocktails along with a traditional bar menu and will feature a cafe, Yellowbird, that will operate from 7:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. to fully utilize the space.

Inspired by the vibe curated in her grandparents ‘70s basement, which they have since moved out of, Woodworth plans to recreate that aesthetic with a retro style and an encouragement for those who step into Luke’s to go offline for a bit.

“Everything is so messy in the world right now. I want you to walk in and just, like, kind of take a breath and everything to just sort of feel warm and familiar,” Woodworth said.

Luke’s Social Lounge originally planned to open its doors this fall, but according to Woodworth, it will officially be open before the upcoming holiday season.
