After leaving almost two decades ago, popular chain files permit to return to Central Ohio

The rumors are true.

Zaxby’s, the popular, national fried chicken wing restaurant with roots in the South, is making a Columbus-area comeback after leaving the Central Ohio market back in 2008. The restaurant closed within six months of opening their first, and only, Ohio location almost two decades ago, which was located near OSU at 2108 N. High St.

Last year, the restaurant announced they’re planning on bringing 10 new locations in Ohio, with at least one near Columbus. They didn’t spill the details on where, though. But now, we’ve learned where the first (again) Central Ohio Zaxby’s intends to open.

The City of Columbus told 614Now that Zaxby’s filed a permit at 1785 Hilliard Rome Rd. in Hilliard, in a former KFC. The site plan has been submitted, but The City said it hasn’t officially been fully approved yet. 

Zaxbys is best known for their hand-breaded and fried chicken wings and tenders, along with their 12 dipping sauces. They first opened in Georgia in 1990, and they’ve had a loyal following since.
