Bodega sold to new owner; rebrand, rename coming

A mainstay in the Short North’s late-night scene is about to undergo some significant changes.

According to Hector Muñoz, owner of Cilantro Latin Fusion on the city’s Northwest Side, the team behind Cilantro has purchased the operating rights to the longstanding beer bar Bodega, which is located at 1044 N. High St. Opened in 2006, Bodega has served as a hub for craft beer and cheap eats in the Short North.

According to Muñoz, the restaurant and bar will undergo a rebrand sometime in the next 4-6 weeks. He noted that, while change is undoubtedly coming for Bodega, many aspects of the spot will remain the same.

“I want to keep the basic concept the same, as a taproom with food,” Muñoz told 614Now. “Since we’re brand new to the late-night crowd, we want to do a slow transition.”

While the exact details of the rebrand haven’t been determined yet, Muñoz the word “Bodega” will likely remain in the new concept’s name. He also noted that the new menu will include old Bodega favorites, alongside South American specialities from Cilantro.

“We’ve been running a Cilantro x Bodega pop-up since May, to test the market,” Muñoz said.  “People seem to be excited about the menu.”
