Central Ohio donut shop asks community for $25K to restore 50 year-old signage

A Grove City family-owned donut shop is asking for community support to restore its sign, and in return, a few lucky contributors will receive a sweet thank you.

Jolly Pirate Donuts, located at 3118 Southwest Blvd in Grove City, was recently recognized as “Jolly Pir” after storm damage and aging repairs left its more than 50-year-old sign in a not-so-jolly state.

After seeking repair services, multiple local companies have given the donut shop quotes of upward of $25,000, a price Jolly Pirate just can’t haul on their own. 

In an attempt to repair the sign back to its 1974 state, Jolly Pirate has set up a GoFundMe goal for community members and donut fans to help contribute to its goal of $25,000. Along with the GoFundMe, Jolly Pirate is seeking a grant from the city as well to aid in completing the project.

“This is a major undertaking we’ve spent a few years trying to afford, but being a small, family owned business it just isn’t feasible to accomplish on our own,” Jolly Pirate wrote on its GoFundMe page.

To thank those who donate, every $50 donation will be entered in a raffle to receive 20 different prizes including Jolly Pirate merch, baked goods, a chance to create your own donut special, and a grand prize of a dozen free donuts every week for a year.

So far, Jolly Pirate has raised $2,260 with 54 donations, and for those who cannot donate, the shop asks them to keep supporting the business, as every in-store purchase is one step closer to a new sign.
