Local restaurant under new ownership just days after food service license revoked by Health District

Less than two weeks after Delaware’s only Indian restaurant was closed and had its food service license revoked, a new sign on the space claims it’s soon to be under new ownership.

Signage on the eatery’s front door, which is located at 44 Sandusky St. in Delaware, reads, “Desi Tadka Northern Indian Cuisine. Coming soon: new owner, new management.”

It appears the Delaware spot will be transitioning to serving Northern Indian cuisine (it was previously billed as billed as general Indian cuisine), but there are no additional details available, and Desi Tadka did not respond to a request for comment by the time this story was published.

When the restaurant aims to reopen is also currently unclear. After repeated violations during Delaware Public Health District (DPHD) inspections between early 2025 and April 10–including on visit that discovered live cockroaches in the dining area—the restaurant had its food service license revoked by DPHD on April 28. 

According to DPHD health commissioner Garrett Guillozet, Desi Tadka must reapply for their food service license and demonstrate that they’ve addressed issues uncovered in their previous inspections. He told 614Now that the restaurant being under new ownership does not affect the

“They have to go through the same process as any new facility. That means submitting an application, completing a plan review, correcting all prior violations, and passing a full inspection before a license is issued. Timeline depends on how quickly they meet those requirements, but it’s not immediate,” Guillozet said.
