Chili chain announces fundraiser after deadly restaurant stabbing

A fundraising effort for the two children of a longtime Skyline Chili employee who was stabbed to death while working at a Cincinnati-area restaurant already received $50,000 in donations as of Friday, June 5.

Alyssa “Ally” Hill, 27, a longtime waitress at the Skyline location in Norwood, was killed Tuesday, June 2 during the lunch rush. According to Cincinnati media reports, prosecutors said Hill was stabbed by 37-year-old Rick Wright, a former boyfriend. On Friday, Wright was indicted on four charges, including aggravated murder. He pleaded not guilty.

Prosecutors said Wright entered the restaurant shortly before noon and sat in a booth after Hill asked another employee to wait on him because she did not want contact with him. Prosecutors allege Wright remained seated for several minutes before pulling a large knife from a sheath and attacking Hill. Customers and bystanders chased him from the restaurant before he was arrested across the street.

After the tragedy, Skyline Chili announced it contributed $25,000 to a fund benefiting Hill’s two children. Coca-Cola Consolidated matched the donation with another $25,000. The Norwood Skyline, located just north of downtown Cincinnati, will also donate 20% of all restaurant sales from June 8 through June 15 to the fund.

“Skyline Chili is devastated by the loss of its longtime server, Ally Hill,” the company said in a statement.

The incident drew widespread attention across Cincinnati, where Skyline is a regional institution, as well as statewide and national headlines. In addition to the Skyline-backed fund, a GoFundMe organized by family members has also been established to help cover funeral expenses and support Hill’s children.

Skyline thanked the community for its prayers, donations and support.
