Local YMCA to shutter; housing development to be built there

Sav McKee

It’s a tale as old as time here in Central Ohio, one of the fastest growing areas in the country—a longtime business, or in this case, non-profit, closes, only for more housing to be built on the site.

This time, the YMCA at 6767 Refugee Rd. in Canal Winchester is the site of redevelopment.

YMCA will be shuttering on May 30. A press release indicates that the center was no longer sustainably operated to meet the community’s needs. Employees will have the chance to be re-employed to other locations within the organization.

This YMCA will sell its property to Columbus Metropolitan Housing Authority in May, and new housing is in the works to be developed here.

For general questions about this closure, please visit the organization’s website.
