Co-owner of Lindey’s opening new restaurant in Upper Arlington

When Houlihan’s closed early this year, loyal patrons and Upper Arlington locals were understandably bummed out. The casual dining chain became somewhat of an institution in the Kingsdale Shopping Center.

But Rick Doody knows a thing or two about legacy restaurants. And he’s planning on bringing one to that exact space at 3150 Tremont Rd.

The co-owner of Lindey’s and founder of the Brio/Bravo restaurant group (before selling that), as well as the founder of NCR Ventures, a Cleveland-based restaurant group behind the recently opened Bar Italia restaurant at Easton, is taking over that former Houlihan’s spot and reimagining it, transforming it to an upscale bar & grille.

“Houlihan’s was such an institution in the area, and we’re leaning into that,” said Tony Ciuprinckas, Director of Executive Support at NCR Ventures. “The concept we’re putting in, Arlington Grille, is paying homage to the city. We want to be as connected as we can to the community.”

NCR Ventures is in the midst of getting everything solidified with the city, but they shared the renderings for Arlington Grille with 614Now. “It will be intimate, moody even,” Ciuprinkskas confirmed. Think natural wood, forest green details, brown leather booths, and dim lighting.

Oh, and a year-round patio, with stringed lights and an outdoor fireplace.

“It will be a neighborhood grille that offers an upscale approach to dining,” said Ciuprinkskas. “But the food will be extremely straightforward.”

Their planned menu, which 614Now received an exclusive look at, has been tested in their Cleveland market at restaurants like Cedar Creek Grille and 17 River Grille, two popular spots in Northeast Ohio. For lunch, expect starters like sushi rolls, dips, and deviled eggs; salads such as Caesars and cobbs that pair perfectly with chicken soup, French onion soup, and lobster bisque; plus sandwiches, burgers, chicken and salmon. Their dinner menu is similar, but with more house specialities, including Idaho Rainbow Trout, pork chops, steak & frites, and BBQ ribs, and a lot more.

“Rick Doody is excited to keep growing in Columbus,” Ciuprinkskas told us. “We felt overwhelming love when we opened Bar Italia.”

Arlington Grille is expected to open before the holidays this year, if all goes as planned. And we’ll definitely see you there.
