Columbus-area grocery store closes doors after 15 years

We knew it was coming, we just didn’t know when. After a 15-year run, the Giant Eagle located in Lancaster has closed its doors for good. 

According to signage on the store’s front door, it permanently closed on July 11 at 6 p.m., although a brand representative told 614Now its liquor store will remain open until July 30. The Giant Eagle was located at 1394 Ety Shops Wy. in Lancaster.

The closure was announced earlier this year, although an exact date wasn’t shared at the time.

“This was a difficult, but necessary business decision made after careful review of store operations,” said Giant Eagle Senior Director of Public Relations Dan Donovan in a press release last month, noting that the brand plans to transfer employees to other area stores. “We are grateful for our Team Members and neighbors who have supported the store over the years, and we look forward to continuing to serve customers at our nearby Central Ohio locations.”

On July 1, Kroger announced plans to acquire Giant Eagle for $1.65 billion.
