The post said, “If you haven’t heard, we’re bringing our great Columbus style pizza to the Short North/South Campus area. We’re partnering with Hoof Hearted Brewing to put a kitchen in their tap room at 26 E 5th Ave.” 614Now spoke with Gatto’s owner Tony DeRubertis. He took over operation of the family pizza spot in 2019, and told 614Now that the goal was always to expand from their Clintonville location. He said, “Good food at a good price, that’s what’s important to us. It’s a great situation at Hoof Hearted—there’s a small patio, we’ll be able to offer walk up and carry out orders.” According to DeRubertis, they’re planning to experiment with the brewery location’s menu and “see what sticks.”

Gatto’s Pizza has been serving Columbus-style pies for over 50 years. Brothers Joe and Jimmy Gatto originally opened the restaurant in 1952 on North High St. DeRubertis took over in 2019 and now operates their main location at 3420 Indianola Ave. The original sign from High Street can be spotted in the new Short North location.
