East side hotspot reopens after temporary closure due to fire
East Market has reopened after a lightning strike caused a fire that temporarily shut down operations earlier this week.
According to Aubrey Stevens, director of development and asset management at East Market, the roof above the Railhouse section was struck by lightning around 11:15 p.m. while the market was open. The market hall itself had already closed for the evening at the time of the incident.
The Columbus Division of Fire responded quickly and extinguished the fire, preventing damage to the main market area. No injuries were reported.

Both the market vendors and Railhouse have since reopened following a rapid cleanup and repair process.
“We had a quick turnaround with the cleaning and sanitizing, repairs, and restoration and are thankful for everyone who helped get us back in business,” said Stevens.
