Eatery with history of health department violations abruptly closes doors

A Central Ohio restaurant that was once temporarily shuttered by local officials has now closed, seemingly on its own accord.

The Hardee’s in Circleville, which was located at 300 W. Main St., closed its doors in late April. It’s unclear if the closure is permanent.

The closure follows ongoing strife with the Pickaway County Health Department (PCHD) regarding health and safety concerns.

A Scioto Post story reported that the eatery was temporarily shut down by the PCHD and the Circleville Fire Department in June of 2023, as it was deemed a risk to public health and safety. 

According to PCHD records obtained by 614Now, the Hardee’s location faced a litany of violations dating back more than a decade. 

One Pickaway County Health Department inspection in June of 2022 noted multiple critical violations for food not being kept at proper temperatures, stored food containers not being marked, a dirty ice machine and pest issues.

“Presence of live insects, rodents, and other pests. Multiple flies observed in facility, as well as rodent droppings. Facility does have exterminator. Believe droppings are from previous mice and droppings havent been cleaned up yet. Make sure rodent droppings are cleaned up immediately,” the violation reads.
