Here’s where to get the viral mango mochi in Columbus

There’s nothing quite like a ripe mango in the summer—now combine ripe mango with a traditional Japanese dessert, and you have the viral mango mochi. Luckily, you can find this seasonal sweet treat right here in Columbus.

The Mochi Shop, located at 999 Bethel Rd., has begun offering the viral treat via pre-order. According to their social media, the demand is very high. They shared a post that said, “Freaking out about 50+ Preorders while Kayo San quietly and quickly churns the mango mochis out. How she handles the crazy busy times with such poise and determination is beyond us, and we’re so grateful for her, for our team, and most especially for all of you for an amazing day of large mango mochi preorders and sales. Now excuse us while we go search for as many ripe mangoes as we can find for tomorrow.” 

If you’re unfamiliar, mochi is a traditional Japanese rice cake dessert made from mochigome, a short-grain rice. The rice is steamed and pounded into an elastic paste and stuffed with filling. It’s chewy, delicate, and exactly the kind of treat you want to enjoy in the summer heat. The Mochi Shop is offering two varieties of the viral treat—a cream mango mochi with fresh mascarpone whipped cream wrapped around a half Champagne mango, and a coconut mango version that has coconut mochi and coconut flakes. They’re only available via pre-order and while supplies last, follow their Instagram for updates and announcements.
