Historic Central Ohio ice cream spot announces reopening date

Jack McLaughlin

Velvet Ice Cream is (almost) back.

Yesterday, the brand announced that it plans to reopen for the season on May 1. This also means Ye Olde Mill, the historic mill site where Velvet is headquartered, will also open for the year.

“Opening day at Ye Olde Mill is always something special,” President of Velvet Ice Cream Luconda Dager said in a press release. “It’s a tradition that brings people together year after year, and we’re excited to welcome everyone back for another season of making memories.”

The Mill, which is located at 11324 Mt. Vernon Rd. in Utica, was originally constructed in 1817, and acts as a family-friendly spot where visitors can stroll the Mill grounds, take in a piece of Central Ohio history and grab some ice cream.

Each year, the opening precedes Velvet Ice Cream’s Annual Utica Ice Cream Festival, which will celebrate its 50th year when it’s held May 23-25.
