Hocking Hills-area bourbon, restaurant brand opens new steakhouse in Central Ohio

A hospitality brand that began in the Hocking Hills area has expanded to Central Ohio with a new steakhouse.

Black Diamond Prime Steakhouse opened the doors of its new Johnstown restaurant on March 8. It’s located at 49 1/2 Main St., the former home of Ray Ray’s Hog Pit, which closed late last year.

The eatery’s menu includes an “elevated steak program” and a massive bourbon selection, alongside cocktails and craft beer.

Black Diamond Companies, which began as a brewery and distillery in Nelsonville, is named after the coal that was once the area’s lifeblood. Today, the brand operates tasting rooms in Greenfield, Shawnee, Marietta, Nelsonville and Circleville, alongside the original Black Diamond Prime Steakhouse location in Circleville.

“The Black Diamond story is built on a simple philosophy: honor local heritage, build unique spaces that bring communities together, and deliver exceptional food, spirits, and hospitality,” a social media post announcing the new Johnstown location reads. “From aging bourbon barrels in restored railway cars in Athens County to restoring historic buildings across Ohio communities, the company has consistently blended craft production, culinary excellence, and community revitalization into its business model.”
