Not a Joke: Local eateries release cheesy calzone made with sugar cookie dough on April Fool’s

Like cloning and data mining, just because we have the technology to do something doesn’t mean we should be doing it.

The newest item to join this list is an ambitious, if not slightly disturbing, collaboration between Mikey’s Late Night Slice and Lion Cub’s Cookies.

Meet the Cubzone.

And before we go any further, it’s worth clarifying that this is not a joke, despite the item being announcement the day before April Fool’s Day.

Billed as a “culinary crossover that marries the nostalgic, thick-bake style of Lion Cub’s with the bold, irreverent flavors of Mikey’s Late Night Slice,” the Cubzone infuses Lion Cub’s sugar cookie dough with Mikey’s signature pizza spice blend, before stuffing it with Mikey’s marinara sauce, gooey cheese blend and mini pepperonis. The Cubzone is finished with a crunchy layer of baked cheese on its exterior, and is served with Mikey’s Unicorn Sauce.

“We wanted to do the thing brands always pretend they’re doing on April 1st – something so ridiculous people assume it’s fake – and then actually do it.  Lion Cub’s and Mikey’s are a perfect match for this type of thing.  We’re both local, deeply connected to our community, and we’re not afraid to have fun with creativity,” Bradley Kaplan, Founder of Lion Cub’s Cookies, said in a press release.

The crossover item is available beginning April 1 at both Lion Cub’s location and six Mikey’s Late Night Slice locations until supplies last.
