Local bakery goes viral for beaver cookies supporting business sued by gas station giant
Businesses across the Buckeye State are voicing their support for Beaver’s Mini Mart in Beavercreek after gas station giant Buc-ee’s filed a federal copyright lawsuit against the business due to use of a cartoon beaver in their logo.
One Columbus-area bakery has jumped on the support train, proving revenge is sweet.
The Original Goodie Shop, a long-standing Columbus bakery which is located at 2116 Tremont Ctr. in Upper Arlington, is making waves online after releasing a new cookie in support of the small Ohio business. The cookies depict the Beaver Mini Mart name, logo, and address.

“When you’re a small business and you receive a cease and desist, you probably don’t have the funds to fight a giant corporation like Buc-ee’s in court,” Original Goodie Shop owner Emilie Smith told 614Now. “The town where the shop resides, Beavercreek, is literally named after beavers and the Mini Mart’s logo uses a beaver because of this–full body, no red tongue, no flood yellow, no circle. It feels like bullying on Buc-ee’s part.”
The local bakery’s post about the cookies has–in less than 24 hours–received more than 6,000 likes on Instagram alone.
It’s not just the post that people are eating up, either. Smith said that the bakery made 24 cookies yesterday afternoon, all of which sold out before she let for the day. The Original Goodie Shop will have more stock today, and the cookies will be offered through at least the end of this week, potentially next week as well, depending on sales.
According to the local bakery’s post, cookies are $3 each, and $1 from every cookie sold will go to Beaver Mini Mart.
