Local eatery becomes the ‘first in Columbus’ to offer viral soft-serve margaritas

If you’re a foodie with a TikTok account, chances are you’re already very familiar with the soft serve margaritas that have been taking over the internet.

Until recently, you probably weren’t able to find these unique frozen drinks locally. But that has since changed.

Last week, AJ’s Tacos, which is located at 3307 Sullivant Ave. announced that it is now serving multiple flavors of soft serve margarita. It officially rolled out the items on March 16.

“I was scrolling on TikTok and kept seeing them all over in a different city, and figured I’d buy the machine and figure out how to make the mix for it,” AJ’s Tacos co-owner Rachael Aguirre said. 

The margaritas—which are made by creating a margarita, adding it with a cream-dense and then mixing it with a Ninja CREAMI or other similar machine—are $10 for a small and $16 for a large, and are regularly available in Pineapple, Strawberry, Lime, Mango and Swirl, with rotating daily flavors.

According to Aguirre, the margaritas are approximately 5 percent ABV, although customers are able to purchase an extra tequila shooter if they’d like theirs stronger.

In a social media post made on Friday, the eatery claimed to be the first to offer the trending treat in Ohio’s Capital City.

Aguirre also noted that the margaritas have been a huge hit, drawing lines of customer since they were released just several weeks ago.

“It’s been so popular that we’ve had lines of people daily since then and we are so grateful for this ‘viral’ moment. We love staying busy and meeting tons of new faces,” she said. “Our regular customers come in so confused on why there’s so many people inside. Let’s just say the machine paid for itself the first day.”
