Longstanding Columbus pizzeria reopens for first time after storm damage
A South Columbus pizza spot of nearly 15 years is back in business after severe storms — and a suspected tornado — damaged its building and forced it to close for more than a month.
DawgHouse Pizza & Bar reopened Sept. 17 at 2031 Lockbourne Road, according to the restaurant’s social media pages.
The neighborhood pizza joint abruptly closed Aug. 11 after storms swept through the area. Photos and video shared by DawgHouse showed significant damage to the building’s roof, with portions of roofing peeled back and debris scattered around the property.

“We are temporarily closed due to building damage from the storm,” the restaurant wrote at the time, adding that it would provide updates as repairs progressed.
The damage was believed to have been caused by a tornado during the severe weather. The closure ultimately stretched into September as the restaurant worked to repair the building and prepare to reopen.
By Sept. 3, DawgHouse told customers the “reopening countdown” had begun. Less than two weeks later, it announced the official return.
“We’ve worked hard to bring the Dawghouse back, and we cannot wait to open the doors and welcome everyone home,” the restaurant wrote in announcing its Sept. 17 reopening.
Since reopening, DawgHouse has shared photos of pizzas coming out of the kitchen and thanked customers for returning.
“The pizza is back!!!!” the restaurant wrote. “It has been awesome seeing everyone back at the Doggie!”
