Former Roosevelt, Florin employee launching quirky new coffee concept

Columbus is getting a new cafe concept from an industry veteran—Odd Duck Coffee is coming soon to North Linden.

Located at 1484 Oakland Park Ave., the cafe is expected to open in fall of this year. 614Now spoke with the owner, Zachary Walls, who said the goal is to be a community hub for the area. Conveniently, Zachary and his wife Erin happen to live in the neighborhood. He said, “We’re highly invested, we want it to be a community spot, a gathering spot. We want to make a great space for people to come in to ideally have a laugh, and walk out feeling better than when they walked in.” 

Zachary got his start in the coffee scene working at Starbucks fresh out of college, then early days with The Roosevelt Coffeehouse, and later Florin Coffee. He told 614Now that the idea for Odd Duck originated with his mom—who always said he marched to the beat of his own drum. The cafe will be a multi-roaster model, with a rotating selection of beans. He said, “There’s so many interesting roasters across the country, changing it up gives customers something new to try that they might otherwise not have access to.” The cafe will also stock a selection of local pastries, and vendor applications are welcome.
