Just an hour’s drive from Downtown Columbus is Lievita, an Italian eatery and pizzeria located in Chillicothe.

If you haven’t heard of it, you’re not alone, but this small-town spot has begun turning heads on the international level after a recent performance at the International Pizza Expo.

According to owner Joe Casiallas, Lievita’s cheese pizza was entered into the International Pizza Challenge at the International Pizza Expo, and it received rave reviews.

Their pie was named the 25th best cheese pizza in the world, and third best in the Midwest, both were in the Best Cheese Pizza division.

“Let that sink in. The same pizza you can order any day of the week… is now officially ranked among the best on the planet,” Lievita wrote in a social media post. “Your small town. Our small team. Right here in Chillicothe. We’re proud — but we’re hungry for more. And trust us… we’re coming back even stronger. We know we can win this when everything lines up.”

Casiallas said that the eatery, which is located at 85 N. Paint St. in Chillicothe, gained 700 new followers just days after posting about the strong finishes. He added that sales have spiked as well.

“We have seen growth to the level of stressing our current systems. Things like growing the starter to produce that level of dough takes a couple days, then a couple days of ferment. Also, all of our flours are organic and take a couple days to come in,” he said. “It’s definitely been an adjustment but has been quite incredible also.”
