Owners of Sexton’s Pizza opening new, thin-crust pizza concept

The ‘best pizza in Columbus’ is branching out.

Sexton’s Pizza, the popular local spot well-known for earning an 8.1 score from Dave Portnoy’s One Bite Pizza, is launching a brand-new pizza concept.

Called Uncle Frico’s Pizza, the new eatery will be located at 222 W. Lane Ave. According to Joey Sexton, who owns Sexton’s Pizza with his brother, Jamie, the new concept will likely open in late summer this year.

While Sexton’s serves New York-style pies created from homemade dough, Uncle Frico’s will offer bar pie, a style of thin pizza that originated in the taverns and watering holes of the Northeast United States.

Uncle Frico’s Pizza will be made with Sexton’s pizza dough, which is crafted by hand and let rise for two full days. True to its name, pies from the new concept will feature a frico edge, the crispy rim of caramelization created when pizza cheese (which almost entirely covers the pizza in traditional bar pies) touches the cooking pan.

“I’ve been sitting on this idea for a long time,” Joey Sexton told 614Now. “We used to serve bar pies but we had to take off the menu after the 8.1 review bc we didn’t have enough room in the stone ovens.”

While it’s sure to send a jolt of excitement through the Columbus food scene, Uncle Frico’s isn’t the Sextons’ first foray into concepts outside of their namesake pizzeria. In early 2024, the brothers opened a smash burger spot called Sexton’s Burger Bar.
