Owners of The Lion bringing dog and alcohol-friendly outdoor gathering space to East Side

Mike Davis and the Bexley Hospitality team are in the business of firsts. After bringing the first cocktail bar to Bexley, they now have their sights set on the city’s first dog and drink-friendly outdoor venue.

The Bexley Yard, which will be located at the southwest corner of Cassingham Avenue and Main Street, just behind The Lion, is slated to hold a soft launch on Sept. 5, with a grand opening on Sept. 12.

“We get a ton of people hanging out on The Lion’s front porch with doggos, or leaving them outside of The Lion while they run in and grab their lattes. Now they can enjoy a latte or cocktail with their furry friend in the yard just across the street,” Davis told 614Now.

Billed as the “exclusive green space for The Lion,” The Bexley Yard is within Bexley’s DORA corridor, meaning visitors can purchase to-go cocktails and coffee from The Lion to enjoy outside. Davis added that he’s currently working on delivery logistics that would allow team members from The Lion to bring sealed drinks directly out to patrons.

The dog-friendly space will feature multiple sitting areas, yard games, vendor market stalls, and even a rotating lineup of food trucks and musicians (which will be announced shortly). Davis said that, while a variety of trucks will be offered, there will be a emphasis on Mexican cuisine, as it’s in high demand in Bexley. 

The Yard will share hours with The Lion, which is open 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-11 p.m. Monday-Thursday, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4 p.m.-12 a.m. Friday and Saturday, and 9 a.m.-1 p.m. and 4-11 p.m. on Sunday.
