Popular Columbus sandwich shop abruptly closes
A longtime late-night campus staple is no longer serving up its famously fat sandwiches.
PJ’s Sandwiches, located at 15 E. Frambes Ave. near Ohio State, has closed its doors. The shop is listed as closed on online ordering platforms, and their listed phone number is no longer in service. A member of the 614 staff visited the restaurant during normal business hours Wednesday, Sept. 23, and found it closed.
For years, PJ’s was a go-to spot for Ohio State students and night owls looking for an enormous sandwich, a pile of fries or some indulgent late-night food. The restaurant was known for keeping the kitchen open well into the early morning, with its listed hours historically stretching to around 2:30 or 3:30 a.m.

The menu featured an entire lineup of wildly over-the-top combinations of meats, fried foods, cheese, fries and sauces in their signature “fat sandwiches.” The Fat Buckeye, for example, came loaded with steak, bacon bits, pepperoni, salami, shredded cheese, fries and high sauce. The Fat Coney combined two hot dogs with chili, shredded cheese, onions, mustard, fries and a mac-and-cheese wedge. Fat Sloopy featured meatballs, a mozzarella stick, shredded cheese, fries and marinara.
The menu also included cheesesteaks, burgers, wings, gyros, wraps, fries, mozzarella sticks, mac-and-cheese bites and plenty of other late-night comfort food.
PJ’s was a campus institution, particularly for students looking for food after a night out. Its closure has already sparked plenty of nostalgia among former customers, with Columbus residents reminiscing online about late-night trips to PJ’s.
For now, there is no confirmation on what will happen to the Frambes Avenue building. Stay tuned for updates and announcements.
