High Street donut shop unveils newest Columbus food craze: Coffee Slushies

Katie Passo, the owner of Rose Dough Donuts in Clintonville, has made a name for herself by taking a popular standard and making it a whole lot better than it usually is. While she’s been doing this with donuts for years, she decided it’s time that coffee had a turn.

As a part of the one year year anniversary party for Rose Dough’s Clintonville bakery, which was held the weekend of Aug. 22, Passo rolled out a slushie machine and began offering coffee slushies.

“Well, I’ve been wanting a slushie machine for a long time–and just got one in time for our one-year anniversary,” Passo told 614Now. “I wouldn’t say I invented coffee slushies, but I was inspired by Instagram and hadn’t really seen anyone else in Columbus making [them].”

The unique frozen concoctions are created by combining Rose Dough’s scratch-made small batch cold brew (created using with Royal Flamingo’s Brazil Roast), local cream top milk from Indian Creek Creamery, and house-made Madagascar bourbon vanilla bean syrup, all of which is loaded into the slushie machine, frozen, and turned in Rose Dough’s Coffee Slushies.

The enticing new offering is part of the brand’s foray into house coffee (including its bottled cold brew Latte) under the name Bloom Brew.

Passo said patrons can expect a bevy of fun fall slushie flavors as well, including apple cider, chai and hot chocolate.
