RIsing fast: Up-and-coming artisan bread bakery lands brick and mortar space
A sourdough pickup business was in jeopardy when its home location was forced to close. What could have been the end of The Bread Box turned into a new home.
When I Rise Baking Co., a local Hilliard mini-bakery, specializes in home-baked, small-batch sourdough. Through pop-ups, markets, and other local events, When I Rise sourdough has quickly leavened the hearts of Hilliard.
Due to its success, the bakery opened a pickup stand for online orders. The Bread Box operated out of Coffee Connections, located at 4004 Main St. in Hilliard. When the coffee house had to close its location due to building damage, it meant The Bread Box had to close as well.

In an Instagram post announcing its end at the coffee house, The Bread Box also announced its new location.
“So much of our success as a business we owe to the owners and employees at Coffee Connections, who are now sweet friends,” the post read. “They were our first wholesale partners, later (so graciously) opening up their patio space for the Bread Box, and hosting us for countless pop-ups and Hilliard celebrations.”
On June 28, When I Rise posted another announcement about a new operation of The Bread Box at the renowned bagel shop, Bears Bagels.
Located at 4142 Main St. in Hilliard, The Bread Box will continue its weekly pickups, including now Friday evenings.
