This restaurant chain has closed nearly 20 Ohio locations since last year

Since last July, the Buckeye State has lost a whole lot of fried chicken.

According to a new analysis from AI search visibility platform Local Falcon, KFC has closed 18 Buckeye State locations between July 15, 2005 and July 6 of this year. The eatery closed a total of 312 restaurants nationwide last year, according to Local Falcon.

The anaylsis claimed that only California and Texas had more total KFC closures (44 and 34 locations, respectively). In total, Ohio lost 9.2 percent of its KFC stores.

Earlier this year, 614Now reported that the chain has lost multiple Central Ohio locations in the span of approximately seven months. While this trend may be alarming to fans of the brand, Local Falcon CEO David Hunter noted he didn’t believe it represented a serious Columbus departure for KFC.

“Ohio is a top-three state for KFC closures, but the pattern is the opposite of what we saw in Texas. With no single Ohio city losing more than a couple of locations, this looks like KFC trimming underperformers right across the state rather than exiting any one market,” Hunter said.
