Waterfront cafe reopens after temporary closure, ownership change
Trapper John’s Canoe Livery is a well-known central Ohio destination for paddling the Big Darby. But did you know they also have a cozy cafe? After a brief hiatus and now under new ownership, Creekside Cafe is officially back and serving customers at 7141 London-Groveport Rd in Grove City. Trapper John’s announced its grand opening on Friday, June 26 via social media.
Inside, Creekside has been thoughtfully reimagined and updated by co-owner Emily Mayes. Customers can comfortably hook up to the WiFi and work, or relax after being out on the water. Seating is available both inside and out, offering great views of the creek. And no, you don’t have to be a canoe or kayak customer to stop in. The cafe is open to everyone, seven days a week.
“Being able to offer this in a rural area outside of Grove City is really special,” said Mayes. “We are excited to be a part of the Grove City, Harrisburg, and Darbydale community.”

Mayes is working on securing bakery partners to roll out pastries and baked goods later this summer. Coffee menu items include drip coffee, espresso, cold brew, and popular latte flavors like s’mores, buckeye, and turtle.
“One thing I think is really cool and that kind of sets us apart is that we use Jennings Java,” explained Mayes. “He is a roaster out of German Village with his own shop.”
“These aren’t beans we are buying from a wholesale restaurant supplier,” Mayes added. “They literally have one stop between the farm to your cup, and that’s his shop in German Village.”
In addition to their exciting partnership with Jennings Java, Creekside Cafe is also offering a full cafe drinks menu, including tea selections, a chai latte, hot chocolate, and their specialty-made fruit lemonades. Perfect for after floating on the Big Darby, the lemonade flavors (lavender, strawberry, and raspberry) are pureed from real fruit.
Customers can buy 12 oz bags of Jennings Java whole beans as well, and Creekside Cafe will even grind the beans fresh for you onsite. Patrons can also purchase a 32 oz jug filled with three pre-made lattes to keep in their fridge for whenever they need a coffee-fix.
Creekside Cafe is officially open every day of the week, from 6:30 a.m. – 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8:30 a.m. through 3:30 p.m. on Saturday and Sundays. Parking is free at the Trapper John’s lot onsite.
