Wine bar with Delaware’s ‘first and only rooftop patio’ announces opening date

A new wine bar—and the city’s first-ever commercial rooftop patio—plans to open in Delaware before the end of the month.

According to owner John Cordas, Open BTL, a new upscale wine bar and accompanying wine club, will hold its grand opening on March 20.

The concept is located at 39 E. Williams St., in the former home of J. Gumbo’s.

Cordas, a longtime Central Ohio restaurant owner behind spots like Shorty’s Pizza, Sand Bar Station and more, hopes the new concept—which will also feature a wine club where members will receive hand-picked monthly wines based on their preferences—will help to demystify wine, and make it more accessible to everyday Ohioans.

“I’ve been a wine club member myself for 15 years. When I tell people I have one they think I’m rich. It’s not that, I just don’t want to go to  Kroger to get my wine, I want someone who knows what they’re doing to pick wines for me,” Cordas said.

Also, due to the unique features of the building compared to other commercial spaces in Delaware, Open BTL will feature the city’s first-ever rooftop patio. Cordas said it meets city specifications as it’s a standalone structure complete with a parking lot.
