‘Your location is closed today effective immediately:’ Pizza chain closes only Ohio restaurant

Giordano’s abruptly closed the doors to their last remaining Ohio location on June 8, and employees didn’t know until the freezers were empty. According to an employee affected by the closure, members of the staff were told “Your location is closed today effective immediately, are you free to come collect your final paycheck?”

The restaurant—known for deep dish pizza—was located at 2137 Polaris Pkwy. 614Now spoke with the employee who said, “Someone texted me ‘Gios is closed’. I couldn’t believe it at first.” According to the employee, the walk-ins were cleared of all their ingredients overnight. They said, “They emptied out the walk-ins overnight. No dough, no sauce, no cheese, no nothing. By the time I left from picking up my paycheck all signage was off the building.” 

Employees were told by HR that it was a “hard decision after months of watching the market.” According to the employee, others had reported for their shifts on June 8 as usual—prior to being told anything. A corporate representative of Giordano’s was not available for comment.
