62 year old Columbus institution laying of 15% of staff due to ‘funding’ and ‘attendance’ changes
It’s been a rough couple of years for museums, and one of Columbus’ own is feeling the struggle.
Although attendance has been increasing at COSI to pre-pandemic numbers, the science museum that’s been an institution here in Columbus since 1964, tax records show that the museum lost about $1.3 million in net income in 2024, plus a reduction in grant funding.

As a result, COSI is making the difficult decision to lay off 15% of its part-time & full-time staff members.
“After careful review, we made the difficult decision to reduce staffing to align resources with current needs and the projected environment,” COSI said in a statement.
