After losing dozens of Ohio locations last year, this chain is closing Columbus store

Another local discount store is calling it quits.

According to signage on the building, the South Side Family Dollar, which is located at 1600 Lockborne Rd., is set to close its doors for good. The family dollar located at 2052 Lockborne Rd. will remain open.

It’s unclear when the store will close, and Family Dollar could not be reached for comment by the time this story was published, but the location is currently in the midst of a final liquidation sale, offering 30-50 percent off inventory.

While there are currently more 350 Family Dollar stores in the state of Ohio, according to a recent analysis from AI rank-tracking platform Local Falcon, the brand shuttered 28 locations in the Buckeye State between July of 2025 and June of 2026, the second most of any state behind Texas, which saw 35 store closures.
