Are lines really this long? Columbus airport responds after viral TSA line video
At least one video showing a long Transportation Security Administration (TSA) line at John Glenn Columbus International Airport (CMH) is making the rounds online, but airport officials say it’s nothing unusual.
The clip, first captured by WBNS-10TV and shared by other social media accounts, prompted concern about delays at CMH. In response, the airport said on social media that the lines shown are typical for early mornings, when TSA checkpoints first open.
In the words of CMH’s Instagram account: “It happens every morning.”

Airport officials said they have not seen significant delays at security checkpoints. However, with spring break travel underway, passengers may still see longer lines during peak times.
What makes this travel season different is TSA staffing has been strained nationwide during a partial federal government shutdown affecting TSA. TSA officers have been working without pay, leading to increased call-offs and staffing shortages at some airports across the country.
In response, federal officials are using U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) personnel to support operations at airports in limited roles. As of Monday, CMH said it was not aware of any plans for ICE personnel to assist at the Columbus airport.
For now, Columbus appears to be operating relatively normally compared to larger hubs seeing disruptions. Still, airport officials recommend travelers plan ahead. Passengers are urged to arrive at least 90 minutes before domestic flights and two hours before international departures.
Bottom line: the long line circulating online appears to be a typical morning rush at CMH, not a systemwide delay. But with TSA staffing issues still unfolding nationally, giving yourself extra time is still a smart move.
