Ohio resident attempting to become first American woman to paddle solo across Pacific Ocean
10,000 miles, eight to ten months, and zero support boats alongside her. An Ohio resident is attempting to become the first American woman to paddle across the Pacific Ocean solo.
Katie Spotz–a world-class endurance athlete who has already paddled across the Atlantic Ocean and was the first person to swim the entire length of the Allegheny River–will attempt to paddle by herself across the Pacific Ocean.
Spotz, who is from Mentor and currently lives in Cleveland, announced the voyage this month, although it’s currently unclear when she plans to embark.

The 10,000 mile journey will take approximately eight to ten months to complete, and will take Spotz from Peru to Papua New Guinea.
Spotz is attempting the voyage in order to raise money and awareness for clean water initiatives.
