‘Because I Got High’ singer sues former Ohio cops who sued him

Ohio musician behind “Because I Got High” fame, Afroman, is suing one of the deputies involved in the 2022 raid of his home.

Joseph Foreman, better known as Afroman, made headlines in 2023 when the Adams County Sheriff’s Department raided Foreman’s home in 2022 with a search warrant for drug trafficking and kidnapping. Foreman did not face any charges from the search and later released the music videos, “Will You Help Me Repair My Door” and “Lemon Pound Cake,” which featured footage of the law enforcement officials executing the search warrant at his home.

Four Adams County deputies, two sergeants and a detective, sued Foreman, alleging the rapper used and profited from their likeness without their permission, as well as subjected them to death threats, mental distress, and loss of reputation. The plaintiffs were seeking a combined $3.9 million. In March, a jury found Foreman not liable on all counts, and now he is suing one deputy, alleging intent to harass.

Foreman filed the lawsuit on July 27 against Brian Newland, a former Adams County sheriff’s deputy for allegedly suing him for improper purpose and malicious injury. According to Foreman, the musician lost several business deals with music venues and contracts, causing him to lose money.

According to the lawsuit, Foreman is seeking compensatory damages, including attorney fees, lost wages, emotional distress, and loss of business opportunities.
