Building housing longtime Short North hotspot purchased for $1.2 million

Char Bar, a Short North staple in the Columbus bar scene, has been acquired by Columbus-based developer Pizzuti Cos.

Pizzuti purchased the three-story building located at 439 N. High St., along with the two-story Annex at 443 N. High St., for $1.2 million. The sale follows rumors of the bar’s closure amid legal issues dating back to 2020.

The developer also owns the neighboring historic Carlisle building, which it bought and renovated in 2015.

Despite the sale, Char Bar reassured its loyal patrons in an Instagram post that the Short North hotspot, adored since 1962, is not closing.

“Our dear, old building has sold! Rest your fears, we will keep serving long islands for many more years!” The post read.

In September 2024, a pickup truck crashed into the bar, forcing it to close for several months before it reopened in April of last year.

For now, the Char Bar will continue to operate as normal, open daily from 3 p.m. to 2:30 a.m.
