Car crashes into High Street bar two weeks after it reopened and remodeled

What a way to celebrate the holiday weekend.

Just two weeks after the opening of its rebrand, this Brewery District bar is facing more renovations. 

On July 4, according to John Blakely, co-owner of The Daily Etcetera, they received a message via the Citizen app around 4:45 p.m. that a car had struck their building. After a moment of disbelief, a police call confirmed the message. 

The Daily Etcetera, formerly The Daily Growler, located at 702 S. High St., sustained minor exterior damage in the crash.

According to the police, the driver had just finished working a double shift and had fallen asleep at the wheel. Fortunately, the bar was closed for the holiday, and no one was injured. 

“On one hand, it’s devastating to have to close the bar for a few days and be facing such steep repair costs immediately after reopening,” Blakely said. “But on the other hand, we feel so fortunate to have been closed for the holiday when the accident occurred. If anyone was on the patio, they could have been seriously injured.”

The Daily Etcetera is on the mend, and Blakey is anticipating reopening on Tuesday.

“Columbus motorists are why we can’t have nice things!”
