Car drives through brick wall in Clintonville, almost hitting pedestrians

Another day week, another Columbus car crashing into something.

According to a crash report filed with the Department of Ohio Public Safety, an individual driving a Toyota Camry crashed into–and eventually went over–a small brick wall at the edge of a Clintonville parking lot.

The single-car incident took place at the intersection of N. High Street and Longview Avenue. According to the report, the driver was backing up his vehicle and mistakenly engaged the gas pedal instead of the brake “and drove through a brick wall.”

Clintonville resident Mercedes Mead was walking her dog with her fiancé when the crash occurred, and later called in the accident to Columbus Police. She told 614Now the vehicle narrowly missed hitting them.

“We were walking our dogs when he backed up and then suddenly accelerated forward. What really sticks with me is hearing the tires as the car hit the barrier/curb. We could hear the tires turn, but the car just kept going forward. We never saw or heard any indication that he hit the brakes before crashing into the wall,” she said. “At first I think we were more in shock than anything because we realized how close we had just been to being hit…Afterward, when everything slowed down, it really hit me how differently that could have ended for us.”

The driver, who is an employee of a nearby business, was issued a citation for failure to control vehicle and driving without a physical copy of their license on their person.
