Central Ohio pet zebra escapes enclosure
Believe it or not, the Buckeye State is home to its fair share of zebras, and one recently decided to make a break for it.
According to a social media post from the Licking County Sheriff’s Office on May 12, however, that animal is back in captivity.
“Not your average Tuesday! Our deputies were dispatched in the area of Montgomery Rd. today for a loose zebra. After a quick investigation, ‘Zack’ is officially back with his owner. Just another day in Licking County,” the post reads.

Believe it or not, the escape of Zack the zebra isn’t the only Central Ohio zebra-related event that required police response in the last few years.
In March of 2023, a man was hospitalized—and nearly lost his arm—after being attacked by a male pet zebra in Circleville that was defensive of the female zebras it shared an enclosure with.
