Columbus one of the country’s most bed bug-infested cities, Orkin says; 5 other Ohio cities in top 50
While ticks are running rampant in Ohio woods, another insect pest might be wreaking havoc on your home. Especially if you live in Columbus.
According to pest removal service Orkin, Columbus is the nation’s 8th most bed bug-infested city, and Ohio is the country’s most bed bug-infested state.
Orkin creates its rankings each year by analysing the number of recorded calls for pest treatment from each city from May 12, 2025, to May 12, 2026.

This year’s list saw a total of 6 Ohio cities land in the top 5, including:
Cleveland: 4
Columbus: 8
Cincinnati: 13
Youngstown: 32
Dayton: 38
Toledo: 42
“While bed bugs can be found anywhere people live and travel, densely populated cities and environments with high resident and visitor turnover, such as apartments, dormitories and hotels, can create more opportunities for the pests to spread simply due to the movement of high numbers of people,” Orkin said.
The pest control service also noted that its 2026 list, which was released on July 7, saw more Midwestern cities than in previous years.
