Controversial global fashion retailer coming to Columbus

A major fast fashion outlet is hosting a pop-up event at Easton Gateway.

Shein, a global online fast fashion retailer, is offering a back-to-school-themed event at 3940 Stelzer Rd. From August 27-30, Shein shoppers will get a personal taste of online shopping.

Known for selling inexpensive clothing and products from a global network of vendors, the highly anticipated Shein pop-up will feature favorite styles for women, men, plus-size, and teens.

The four-day event will be first-come, first-served and limited to store capacity. The first 50 people in line will receive an exclusive mini tote and fan. Cash will also not be accepted; purchases must be made with credit or debit cards only.

The online retail giant has stirred up some controversy for its past instances of copying clothing designs, unethical practices, and its large environmental footprint. According to Yale Climate Connections, the retailer’s ultra-fast fashion model emits over 26 million metric tons of carbon dioxide equivalent annually. A previous pop-up event at Kenwood Towne Centre in Cincinnati was met with environmental activist protestors.
