“Efficient beer burglar” hits UA bar, leaving $500 in damage and shattered glass
The Daily Growler in Upper Arlington is cleaning up after someone shattered glass but not a sense of humor.
The owners told 614NOW an employee first noticed the apparent break-in around 5:45 a.m. Monday while heading to a nearby gym. They said security footage later showed someone breaking in just before 3:30 a.m. and leaving in under three minutes.
“Quite an efficient beer burglar,” said John W. Blakely, whose father owns The Daily Growler.

Despite the quick entry, the person didn’t get away with anything. The owners said they don’t keep cash on-site overnight and leave the register open to avoid damage. So the intruder left empty-handed, but not without leaving behind about $500 in repairs.
“At first I thought a UA dad was just really upset Timothée Chalamet lost best actor (those UA dads are gaga for T Chal!),” Blakely joked. “Overall, it’s a little disheartening how callous people can be. But we’re happy no one was hurt and we were able to get the door repaired the same day.”
Blakely said police told them the break-in could be connected to at least two other situations in the area last week. Now, the team is hoping the community can help soften the blow.
“It would sure be nice if people wanted to stop in for a pint or growler this week as we could use a bump in business with the unexpected expense,” Blakely said. “If they can’t make it in person, a vote for us having the Best Beer Selection in ColumBEST would be a nice consolation.”
