Located at 2500 Airport Dr., the greenhouse was first established in 1929 by the DeMonye brothers, who emigrated from the Netherlands to sell Holland bulbs. The plant shop was later sold to Jerry and Lou Killilea, who have operated the business since 1965 with the help of their children.
614Now spoke with a representative of the store, who confirmed that the family is retiring. According to DeMonye’s, there will be a liquidation sale this summer—date and details to be announced. According to building permits with the City of Columbus, the land has been purchased for a housing development. Once the greenhouse closes this summer, an apartment complex called “The Hanger” will begin development. According to permits, the housing project is in the works via the real estate development group Rocky Point Partners. The building will be 130 units with accompanying parking.
Until their closure, DeMonye’s are open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on weekends. Stop in and say hello, and soak up the final chapter of a beloved local business.
