Fire breaks out at Ohio animal hospital; Six horses killed

A fire that broke out at a Stark County animal hospital over the weekend claimed the lives of multiple animals and destroyed numerous structures.

According to the website of Woodland Run Equine Veterinary Hospital, a fire broke out at the facility on Feb. 6, destroying the hospital building and 20 horse stalls.

No humans were injured, but six horses were killed in the blaze. It’s unclear what started the fire.

“We at Woodland Run express our deepest sympathy to the people associated with the three Standardbreds, two Quarter Horses and one Thoroughbred that died. We would also like to express our gratitude to the local fire department and first responders who battled the blaze,” the hospital’s website reads. “The outpouring of prayers, thoughts and support from the community, clients. friends and veterinary colleagues has been tremendous. To that we say thank you. For those who would like to donate in the names of the horses that died, we ask that you contact New Vocations Racehorse Adoption Program and/or ReRide.”

The Ohio State University Veterinary Medical Center also responded to the fire with a social media post the following day.
