While Saturday’s closure was prompted by a bomb threat, according to a social media statement from the Zoo, it was evacuated earlier this morning due an active shooter threat, and will remain closed for the remainder of the day.

Just before 10 a.m. today, the Zoo’er Call Center received an active shooter threat, which led to the evacuation of all guests, with the help of the Delaware County Sheriff’s Office.

At 11:40 a.m., the Zoo updated its statement to note the active shooter threat was cleared by Zoo security and Police.

“The Zoo continues to work closely with law enforcement and follows established safety protocols in response to situations like this,” the Columbus Zoo’s statement reads. “We appreciate the swift response of our partners, as well as the cooperation of our guests and team members. Updates will be shared as more information becomes available.”

The Columbus Zoo isn’t the only one plagued by active shooter and bomb threats, either. The Akron Zoo and Cleveland Metroparks Zoo were both closed on Sunday due to similar reports.
