Former Ohio pastor and ‘American Idol’ contestant convicted of murder

The Ohio man who was once both a pastor and a contestant on the hit TV show American Idol has been found convicted of murder.

Yesterday, Tipp City man Caleb Flynn—a former pastor and 2013 American idol contestant—was found guilty of murdering his wife, Ashley Flynn, by a Miami County jury.

Ashley Flynn died of a gunshot wound in February of this year. Prosecutors said at Flynn’s trial that they believe the 40 year-old staged the scene to appear as if intruders had shot and killed his wife.

Prosecutors said in the trial that Flynn wanted to end his marriage, but didn’t want to lose custody of his daughters or his high-paying job at his wife’s family’s company, so he instead attempted to stage that she was killed by intruders. He was also having an affair at the times of the murders.

Flynn—who appeared as a contestant on American Idol in 2013 but didn’t advance past the tryout round—could receive life without parole, although he has not yet been sentenced.
