Here’s how an Ohio college student became the center of a new Burger King ad campaign
Burger King has fired the King for Ohio University Students.
The beloved burger chain is putting the focus back on the customer. The new ad campaign states, “There’s A New King And It’s You,” essentially replacing its iconic mascot with loyal Burger King Fans. To prove his commitment to the brand, Burger King President Tom Curtis released his phone number so valued guests can offer feedback on how to improve the restaurant.
Ohio University senior Rocco Lombacco can be found at the Burger King in Athens like any other college student in the only 24-hour restaurant in town. Late-night studying, meeting up with friends before a party, or simply throwing back a signature Whopper sandwich. When Lombacco had the chance to call the president to tell him about the great 949 E. State Street location, he didn’t hesitate.

In a social campaign for Burger King, Lombacco and his friends gathered at their favorite restaurant to gush about the spot from the top of the roof—literally.
“Burger King has always meant a lot to me growing up; my grandfather used to pick me up almost every day and take me there to get lunch,” Lombacco said in the post. “Now, the fact that I’m in college and there’s a Burger King right on campus, I get to make new memories.”
To show his gratitude for the call and the campus enthusiasm over Burger King, Curtis surprised Ohio University students with a free Freezee King for a month.
“Every time we come here it’s such a good experience, not getting paid to say this—at all,” Lombacco says.
