High-traffic Columbus road closing for 45 days due to construction

Jack McLaughlin

You’ve heard the jokes about road construction in Ohio, but for some local commuters, they may start hitting too close to home over the next month and a half.

According to the Ohio Department of Transportation (ODOT) a section of U.S. 33, also known as Riverside Drive, will be closed for 45 days as ODOT replaces a culvert underneath U.S. 33 in Columbus and Upper Arlington. The project will also replace the storm sewer located at the intersection of U.S. 33 and Fishinger Road.

The construction will close a stretch of the Columbus thoroughfare between Fishinger Boulevard and River Park Drive. ODOT noted that that a detour will take drivers from U.S. 33 to SR 161 to I-270 to Cemetery Rd. to Fishinger Blvd. to Fishinger Rd. for southbound drivers, and the reverse for northbound traffic.

Construction is expected to begin on Aug. 3.
