Building housing historic High Street diner listed for sale

The building that houses Jack & Benny’s Diner is currently listed for sale. According to the restaurant, they are open for business and just the building is for sale.

The property located at 2563-2573 North High Street has been home to Jack & Benny’s since 1994. Prior to moving locations, the diner first opened on High St. in 1954. The listing said, “Located at the signalized intersection of Hudson Street and North High Street, this highly visible mixed-use asset presents a strong opportunity in the Commercial Real Estate market. The property is surrounded by established national and regional retailers, benefiting from consistent traffic along one of the area’s most active corridors. The asset features a combination of street-level retail and multifamily units, catering to ongoing demand for mixed-use properties in urban infill locations.” According to the listing, the 11,324 sq. ft. building is currently 75% occupied with a mix of residential and retail units. 

The new owner would need to have a redevelopment proposal approved by the University Area Commission if they wanted to demolish the existing structure. Jack & Benny’s confirmed via Facebook that they are open for business as usual while the building is for sale.
